Serving Individual Wedding Cakes

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

Some couples today are having individual wedding cakes served to their guests instead of slicing up one large cake. It’s a very neat idea, but it is more expensive in many cases.

Individual wedding cakes can be a lot of fun. You can go with something as simple as cupcakes if you are having a more informal wedding, or you can go with the expensive cakes that are made to look like tiny cakes. These look like miniature versions of the larger cakes that you may get for a wedding. These are more time consuming for your bakery to make, so you are going to have to pay a bit more to serve the same number of people than you would pay if you were getting a whole, large cake. However, these can look amazing, and if you want them, they are certainly going to make you very happy.

These individual wedding cakes can be much easier to serve to your guests. There is no cutting involved. Instead, they are served on a plate, sometimes they come on their own plates that can be returned to the bakery after your reception is done. Depending on how many people you have coming, many of the cakes can be placed on display before serving. If you have a large guest list, you can display some and then have the rest waiting in the serving or kitchen area to be served when it is time for cake.

One thing that puts individual wedding cakes above your more traditional wedding cake is that you can have a large variety of flavors. You could have as many different flavors of cake as you want to have, but do remember this can cause some confusion. Anything too exotic may not go over well with your guests. However, if you have three different flavors you like, and you can not choose or you want your guests to choose, you can have your cakes made in those flavors. You can also have each decorated in one theme while they all look different. These can be a lot of fun.

Don’t forget to order small cake boxes that will fit the size of your individual wedding cakes, as there are always going to be people that want some to go. Save one, or have one made special, just for the cutting of the wedding cake, and have one aside if you would like to freeze it for your first anniversary. Wrap it up tight and it will last until your first year and will probably taste pretty good too if you do it right.

Monogram Wedding Cakes

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Wedding cakes are big business and for good reason. When it comes to weddings, one of the most important aspects of planning for the reception is the cake. Cakes can be customized with a favorite color, frosting, garnish, size style, shape, filling and flavorings, so there are many options for the bride and groom when it comes to designing their dream cake. Gourmet wedding cakes are common in a classy and elegant wedding and reflect the sophisticated style of the wedding party. Monogram wedding cakes are becoming increasingly popular as they offer a personalized touch that makes the cake truly representative of the newly wed couple.

As important as the cake itself another wonderful part of the tradition is the wedding topper. A bride and groom can choose the traditional couple as the cake topper or go with something more modern and stylish. A monogram cake topper is a popular choice as it signifies the couple joining together under one name and there are many beautiful monogram initials available to top a cake in a whimsical, romantic, or elegant style. Monogram wedding toppers are common in modern weddings as they are simple yet personal. Some choices are to go with the first initials of the bride and the groom and the first initial of the newly married couple if the bride is taking the groom’s last name. A commonly chosen option is to have the bride and groom’s first name initial on either side of a larger monogram with the last name initial that they now share. To signify that the couple is choosing to retain their own names, the initial wedding toppers can have the brides first and last initials as well as the grooms first and last initials.

Another choice that is simple and chic is to do a single initial as the monogram that is the initial of the last name that the couple now shares. This looks particularly sophisticated on a wedding cake that is itself monogrammed with the initials of the couple entwined in the design. A wedding cake monogram can be simple and understated or glamorous and showy. They can be made of silver, or gold plated, cut from glass, etched in glass or encrusted in crystals. There are many options when it comes to cakes and cake toppers and every bride and groom deserves the cake of their dreams, so they should feel free to shop around and find the perfect cake and the ideal wedding cake topper to complete the look they want on their special day.

Wedding Cake Designs

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Wedding cake designs can come in many forms, from the usual cream or white icings in conventional designs, to wholly non-traditional designs laced with vibrant artistry.

With the passing of time, wedding cake designs have evolved. Couples are now choosing cupcake trees with greater frequency, which was one of the foremost wedding cake ideas. Yet, some still have a preference for the conventional cakes for their wedding cakes.

The size and design of the wedding cake may depend on a number of things, like the size of the wedding budget or the availability of other desserts in the reception.

Today, one can find pastry chefs who offer infinite wedding cake ideas on icings, decorations, construction, and flavors.

A wedding cake’s design can be a reflection of personal taste. A couple with a passion for cars or motorcycles can have wedding cakes reflecting the same; a small motorcycle accompanying the miniature figures of the couple atop the cake, for example.

The flavor of the wedding cake is another important aspect. No flavor is off-limits for the modern wedding. One can have cheesecakes, mousse-filled cakes, pound cakes, vanilla, chocolate or sponge cake.

Today, one can find competent bakers with the ability to create the lacy look of the bride’s dress with frosting or the use of pearls. With frosting, these bakers can duplicate the look of any part of the reception’s décor. Also, couples can have their initials entwined in the cake with frosting.

In Bermuda, wedding cakes have a little green tree as a cake topping. Following the wedding, the newlyweds can plant the same tree in their garden, and symbolically watch it grow with time.

Then there are other options like adding edible fruits, chocolates or nuts around the cake. This will augment the designs on the guests’ plates. For that matter, one can also use edible roses, lavender or oregano as designs, or non-edible flowers as cake toppings.
